2024 Juneteenth Day of Service

HUS sponsors Days of Service that help our team reconnect with our company values. While our Day of Service for Earth Day helps us reflect on our mission for sustainability, our Day of Service for Juneteenth gives us space to explore our social mission.

We first brainstormed different ways to give back to our community. Building upon last year’s research on the unhoused population in our surrounding community, we narrowed down a few organizations we can volunteer with that work to address issues in the unhoused population.

During our research, we were also excited to discover Cream City Conservation, an organization that hosts workshops to address systemic racism in the workplace. As our team works within the homes and schools of Chicago residents, it is important that our staff is prepared to interact with people from all walks of life. It is next on our agenda to find a time to bring Cream City into the office to host one of their workshops!

After the brainstorm session, we brought the team to the Pilsen Food Pantry where we volunteered to serve local residents experiencing food insecurity. We collected and delivered food, restocked shelves, helped load equipment for a fundraising event, and determined how to make a more lasting impact in our community. During the volunteer session we committed to sending two employees every month to volunteer in order to establish a more regular commitment to the community.

Realigning with our social mission this Juneteenth Day of Service helped us forge a path toward being more responsible and present community members. We feel the momentum of our efforts and are excited to keep a tighter connection to our community going forward!
