2024 Earth Day of Service

As a sustainability firm, we spend our time enhancing energy efficiencies of large building portfolios and building systems. This year on Earth Day, we reflected on the best ways to incorporate our value for sustainability into our daily lives, focusing on using our own building at 2202 S Halsted in Pilsen as a test case.

The Day of Service came in two phases:

Phase 1: planning & brainstorming

We engaged our analytical strengths to plan ways to continue enhancing the sustainability/energy efficiency of our own property throughout the year with energy modeling and a materials study. We also brainstormed other local organizations with whom we can volunteer to broaden our community impact.

To continue the momentum through 2024, we assigned groups to internal, environmental projects to be completed throughout the end of the year. Stay tuned as we update our progress on our trash collection study, a materials study of concrete, site improvements, and grant research so we can make more substantial improvements to our footprint here in Pilsen.

Phase 2: Getting our hands dirty

We collected 50 lbs of trash from the surrounding corner of Halsted St. & Cermack Rd. Among the trash that gets blown into this corridor, we found a torn $100 bill, a ring, and a fabric-less umbrella.

Meanwhile, Ahna led the initiative to repot our plants and build planters along our property’s edge. This summer, we hope the planters will make the corner we share with two bus stops vibrant and inviting.
